Zouka produced the documentaries Mijn vader, de expat ['My Father, The Expat'] and Toen ma naar Mars vertrok ['When Mum Left for Mars'] in collaboration with the Dutch broadcasting association BNNVARA. Both films aired on Dutch national television.
Abdelkarim and Asma El‑Fassi's parents play a central role in both the documentaries with the makers delving into their parents' life stories and discussing their emigration to Europe. What unfurls is an unconventional portrait of a generation that is often talked about but rarely spoken to.
The films were a big hit in cinemas and on television drawing more than forty thousand moviegoers and more than half a million viewers, respectively.
In samenwerking met BNNVARA produceerde Zouka de documentaires Mijn vader, de expat en Toen ma naar Mars vertrok. Beide films zijn op nationale televisie vertoond. In deze documentaires staan de ouders van Abdelkarim en Asma El-Fassi centraal. De makers duiken in de geschiedenis van hun ouders en gaan het gesprek aan over hun migratie naar Europa. Wat volgt is een onconventioneel portret van een generatie waar vaak over gesproken wordt, maar nauwelijks mét.
De films waren in het theater een grote hit en trokken meer dan 40.000 bezoekers. En op TV trokken beide docu’s meer dan een half miljoen kijkers.
